Anderson, Texas is a small rural community north of Navasota and the county seat of Grimes County. Buyers who consider Anderson are often looking for more space, more land, and a quieter setting while remaining within driving distance of Navasota and College Station.
The Anderson real estate market includes homes in and around town, acreage properties along the surrounding country roads, and newer residential development in Muir Wood. For a broader comparison of Anderson, Navasota, Iola, and other rural areas, explore our Grimes County TX Real Estate and Community Guide.
This page reflects how Anderson functions as a residential real estate market within the broader Brazos Valley region, based on long-term regional market analysis by Raylene Lewis, a Bryan–College Station REALTOR®.
Muir Wood is a newer residential community located off Highway 30 between Anderson and College Station. The neighborhood offers new construction on wooded homesites of one acre or more, along with community lakes and greenbelts.
Its Highway 30 location provides a direct route toward the Tower Point area of College Station. This makes Muir Wood worth considering for buyers who want more land while maintaining access to shopping, dining, medical services, and employment in south College Station.
Anderson’s residential market is shaped more by individual homes and acreage properties than by a long list of named subdivisions. Muir Wood is the primary newer residential community, while much of the surrounding market consists of homes and land located along rural roads outside the center of town.
An Anderson address can include a home near downtown, a house on several acres, a working farm or ranch, or undeveloped land. This variety is an important part of Anderson’s appeal, but it also means the location and setting can change considerably from one part of the area to another.
Anderson is centered around its historic courthouse and downtown Main Street. The town has a small-town atmosphere, with local businesses and services surrounded by farms, ranches, wooded acreage, and rural homesites.
With growth expected from the Terafab development and other investment in Grimes County, downtown Anderson is seeing renewed energy. Restaurants, boutiques, a wedding venue, and local services are bringing more activity to Main Street while Anderson continues to maintain its rural character.
Everyday shopping and services are more limited than buyers will find in Navasota or College Station. Residents may travel to those communities for larger grocery trips, medical appointments, shopping, entertainment, and other services.
Anderson is located north of Navasota along Highway 90 and east of Bryan–College Station. Drive times vary across the Anderson area because many homes and acreage properties are located outside the center of town and reached by county roads.
Navasota provides access to additional shopping, restaurants, medical services, and Highway 6. College Station offers a broader range of employment, shopping, dining, medical care, and entertainment.
Muir Wood is located outside the center of Anderson along Highway 30. Its location provides a direct route toward south College Station, with the Tower Point area approximately 15 minutes away.
The SpaceX Terafab advanced manufacturing development near Gibbons Creek Reservoir is bringing new attention to this part of Grimes County. Anderson, Muir Wood, Iola, Navasota, and eastern portions of Bryan–College Station may all be considered by buyers researching housing around the project.
Muir Wood may receive particular attention because of its location along Highway 30 and proximity to the development area. Buyers considering other Anderson properties should compare the route from the individual home because rural roads can make two nearby properties function very differently for a daily commute.

Anderson’s housing market includes homes in and around town, rural homes with acreage, farms and ranches, vacant land, and newer construction in Muir Wood. Available inventory can be limited because Anderson is a small community, so buyers may need to search both residential and acreage listings.
Anderson is commonly considered by buyers who want more land than they typically find in Bryan, College Station, or a traditional subdivision. Properties range from homes on a few acres to larger rural tracts with barns, workshops, fencing, ponds, or agricultural improvements.
Most Anderson-area homes are located in town or on rural acreage rather than within large subdivisions. Muir Wood is the primary newer residential community and offers new homes on wooded homesites of one acre or more.
The center of Anderson is approximately 30 road miles from College Station, but the actual drive depends on the property and route. Rural roads can add time to the trip. Muir Wood is closer to College Station and is approximately 15 minutes from the Tower Point area.
Anderson is approximately 70 road miles from Houston. Travel time depends on the destination within the Houston area, traffic, and the route used.
Most properties in and around Anderson are served by Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Independent School District. Buyers should confirm the district and assigned campuses for the specific property directly with the district.
Anderson is one of the Grimes County communities buyers may consider when researching housing near Terafab. The commute will depend on the home’s location, the worksite entrance, and the roads used. Muir Wood is especially relevant because it is located along Highway 30 near the development area.
